Biblical Counseling

Restoring God’s Role in Healing the Mind and Heart

At some point, the Church made a mistake.
We handed over the care of people’s minds and emotions to the secular world — as if the Creator of those minds had nothing left to say about them.

Now, don’t get me wrong — there’s a rightful place for medicine, therapy, and clinical care. Many treatments are truly life-saving. But the Bible also holds timeless truths about human nature, emotions, fear, identity, relationships, and peace. And for most people, the lasting answers to mental and emotional struggles are found there — in God’s Word.

Even for those who need medical help or medication, the renewal of the heart and mind still comes through Scripture — by filling our thoughts with truth, drawing near to God, and walking in fellowship with other believers.

Somewhere along the way, the Church quietly stepped back and said, “That’s not our problem.”
But it is our problem. It always has been.

Because every wound of the heart and every battle of the mind — anxiety, depression, bitterness, fear, grief, addiction — is also a spiritual battle. And in every one of those battles, God still speaks, God still heals, and God still has the final word.

My Journey into Biblical Counseling

For as long as I can remember, I’ve cared deeply about helping people live whole, healthy lives — body, mind, and spirit. But the moment that changed everything for me didn’t happen in a classroom or at a church event.  It happened on a mountain bike trail.  Years ago, I crashed on a ride and went off the side of a cliff. I came close to losing my life that day. And when you walk away from something like that, you don’t just keep living the same way you always have.

It shook me.
It made me question everything.
It forced me to face the one question I had been avoiding for years:

“What is my purpose?”

That crash started a long season of seeking God more intentionally than I ever had before. I wasn’t just asking Him for help — I was asking Him for direction, for clarity, for calling. I wanted to know why I was still here and what He had kept me alive to do.

During that season of searching, I was introduced to Biblical Counseling — specifically through the curriculum of the Association of Biblical Counselors (ABC) in Texas. And from the very first moment I began exploring what Biblical Counseling actually is, something inside me clicked.

It wasn’t emotional hype.
It wasn’t pressure.
It was the quiet, steady voice of God saying:

“This is what I’ve been preparing you for.”

That realization brought me to tears — because it felt like the answer I had been praying for finally came into focus.

So, I stepped into the ABC program with everything I had. Over the next ten months, I completed my training and became a Level 1 Certified Biblical Counselor. That season grew me spiritually, emotionally, and personally in ways I never expected. It didn’t just give me knowledge — it gave me direction.

Level 2 is next for me — but before pursuing it, I’m finishing my Nutrition Coaching and Personal Training certifications so I can help people heal and grow in a truly holistic way. Because I’ve learned that spiritual and physical health are connected more tightly than most people realize.

For me, Biblical Counseling isn’t simply about addressing someone’s problem. It’s about helping them see themselves through God’s eyes — and walking with them as they find the peace, identity, strength, and freedom that only Jesus can bring.

How Biblical Counseling Differs from Secular Counseling

Both Biblical and secular counseling aim to help people heal and grow — but they start from very different foundations.

  • Source of Truth:
Secular counseling begins with human understanding; Biblical counseling begins with God’s Word as the ultimate authority and guide for life.
  • View of the Person:
Secular counseling sees people as primarily emotional or psychological beings; Biblical counseling recognizes that we are body, mind, and spirit — created in God’s image.
  • Goal of Healing:
Secular counseling seeks coping mechanisms and behavioral management; Biblical counseling seeks heart transformation through the renewing power of the Holy Spirit.
  • Hope for Change:
Secular counseling often looks inward for strength; Biblical counseling looks upward — to Christ — for redemption, restoration, and lasting peace.

In short, Biblical Counseling doesn’t replace professional medical or psychological help when it’s needed, but it restores the spiritual foundation that true healing rests upon.

Counseling Boundaries & What You Can Expect

The following is a summary of our Biblical Counseling Boundaries and What You Can Expect. For full details, please follow the link at the bottom of this section to view the complete page.

Biblical Counseling follows clear, Scripture-based boundaries designed to protect both the counselor and the counselee. Jenn counsels women one-on-one, married couples together, and teen girls, but she does not counsel men alone. This isn’t about exclusion — it’s about wisdom, integrity, purity, and staying above reproach in every counseling relationship.

Biblical Counseling focuses on the heart, the mind, and the spiritual roots of life’s struggles. It does not replace medical or clinical mental-health care when those are needed, but it comes alongside them to bring biblical truth, prayer, discipleship, and Christ-centered restoration.

There are also guidelines for confidentiality, for when referrals are necessary, and for ensuring each person is genuinely ready to engage with Scripture and pursue spiritual growth. These principles help create a counseling environment that is safe, accountable, and honoring to God.

Is Biblical Counseling Right for You?

If you’re struggling emotionally, mentally, or spiritually, you may be wondering whether Biblical Counseling is the right next step for you.

Biblical Counseling is best suited for those who are ready to approach life’s challenges through the lens of Scripture — with a desire to grow in faith, renew their minds, and invite God into every part of their healing journey.

This type of counseling is centered on God’s Word and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. It’s for those who want to discover what the Bible says about anxiety, depression, relationships, grief, identity, and purpose — and learn how to apply those truths to everyday life.

Biblical Counseling is not a replacement for medical or psychological care when those are needed. In fact, Biblical Counseling often works alongside professional care, addressing the spiritual and emotional roots while medical providers treat the physical or clinical side.

If this sounds like the kind of guidance you’re seeking, Jenn would love to connect with you.

Before scheduling any counseling sessions, we ask that each person complete a short Biblical Counseling Inquiry Form.

This form helps ensure that Biblical Counseling is the right fit for your situation and gives Jenn the insight she needs to determine whether she is able to take you on as a counselee.

Once you submit the inquiry form, Jenn will review your information and follow up with one of three responses:

  • Approval — along with access to the full Biblical Counseling Intake Packet
  • Referral — if your situation requires pastoral or clinical care outside the scope of Biblical Counseling
  • Clarification — if additional information is needed before moving forward

When you’re ready, use the button below to begin the process.
